This is the classic after Thanksgiving sermon right? I think not. It was sweet as we saw all the cute new kingdom kids being dedicated, seriously I love kids. It's not only after working with the homeless population that I love kids, I just do. They are sweet, kind, and so adorable!
This sermon poked the questions:
What kind of people should we be?
Priorities?
Plans?
Live Holy & Godly?
Where's our focus?
Well that is quite a lot to think about already isn't it. It is the hefty list to say the least! But with God in our hearts and in daily relations we can do it, and we can do it well :)
One thing I've learned this far in life, is that money is not something that will always be there, it comes and goes, you need it, but don't live for it. In the end our treasure is found in heaven and therefore our goal is to live lives glorifying to God and reach people throughout our lifetime to get them in on this treasure we have, not the tv on black friday or whatever that thing is in your life, your iphone.
What kind of person do I want to be, or what kind of person does God want me to be? God gives us the gift of shining for Him to His body and also to the world, so the first thing I want to do is use those gifts to glorify Him. I want to be known for loving with God on my sleeve, not my heart, but God's heart on my sleeve. He runs the show, He runs my life, my love is worthless without His.
The speaker brought up many good points!
Don't Run!!!
Make Plans!
Always strive to learn new things everyday(education)!
Fall In Love!
Get Married!
Be Generous!
Seize each day!
Enjoy a life well lived!
Now doesn't all that make you want to live for God everyday? Yes it does, I am sure. But there are hardships. So this is where priorities come into play. Holding onto God in the midst of the good and the tough love moments is what will get you through. A life well lived is not a happy life all the time, it's more a life that is ready to take on whatever is about to come, storm or sunny day.
Plans? I thought we walked blindly and see what happens? False. The thing is, planning is a good thing, it gives us a goal. But the thing is what a humans plan is, is nothing compared to what God has in store.
Story of my life right now is I'm graduating May 2012 from North Central University with my Bachelor's of Science in Social Work with a Minor in Biblical Studies. Well yes, thank you, I'm excited, but also the thing is what happens next? Will I get a job somewhere, will someone take me on, do I go to grad school? It was a tough, prayerful moment I had with God. I have learned more than ever, God will answer your questions if you lay them down and trust Him. I finally started trusting Him with the grad school vs. job. One night as I was laying down to sleep I just got this rushing peace that I was meant to apply for jobs after this year. Where, when, what, with who, on my own? Who knows? But the thing is I have my ideas but God is the creator of my puzzle. It's like Jenga.
You might throw something on the foundation but God might remove the bottom piece and you might crash down, but it's better to crash down and get built up in the way God designed you with a purpose than to have something mediocre for your testimony and something cheapened.
Your focus should be on God's kingdom always, furthering it, and pushing for the day when God's reign is back to come and look forward to that sweet day! One funny thing that was said was
" One day you will wake up for the very last time"
Morbid thought you say, but it is true, our lives here are the blink of an eye. We are one voice in a single generation. Are you doing all you can? Are you leaving a legacy? Do you have a foundation set for yourself? Are you using your gifts and talents?
One thing I am starting to realize is my gifts, what God has blessed me with, are no good sitting around. They need to be used. They need to be seen. Not for my own good, but to fulfill purpose in this life God has given me. I am but a tool, an instrument in the grand scheme of things. I today was challenged to start living out loud more, and not hiding things I love to do. We tend to do that, shrug back when we are not sure, that's when you need to check yourself and have God be your confidence, not by your strength but by God living in you each and everyday. You are but a mere human being created by an all powerful God that gets excited when He sees you in His will. He wants the best, NOTHING BUT THE BEST for us.
If you ask God, He will fulfill your desires, He made you the way you are, and He knows you more than anyone including yourself.
One thing to be reminded of, is you are not a NOBODY. You are a child of God, not an orphan, not a child of divorced parents, stepsister, stepson, daughter...
You are called by your name, God knew your name before it was given. He made your purpose even before you even started fitting the pieces together. He created you to be detailed, unique, and beautiful or handsome just the way you are. You are no orphan anymore. Walk in that confidence. What confidence you ask? The confidence of God that He made you, called you, redeemed you, walk that holy lifestyle, give up that junk, let go of false confidence, ego, all that jazz, be the real go getter that God made you to be, walk in that :)
